This simple paper plate craft is a fun and easy craft activity that also helps develop fine motor skills in younger kids.

Kids will have fun painting the top of the paper plate with orange paint to create the leprechaun’s face.

The really fun part is creating the leprechaun’s beard with orange yarn.

Paper Plate Leprechaun Craft For Kids

Materials Needed:

  • Paper plate
  • Peach paint
  • Paint brush
  • Orange yarn
  • Single hole puncher
  • Construction papers in green, yellow, and black
  • Scissors
  • Marker
  • Orange pom pom ball
  • Optional: googly eyes
  • Optional: orange construction paper

 

Instructions On How To Make The Leprechaun Paper Plate Craft:

1. Begin by painting the paper plate with peach paint.

If you don’t have peach, you can use a blend of pink and orange paint.

Allow the paint to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

If you want to skip the paint, you can cut out a circle of orange construction paper to fit on the paper plate and glue it on.

2. Use the hole punch to create holes in the paper plate, ensuring not to punch all the way through.

Only punch holes on the bottom rim of the paper plate.

Leave 1⁄4 of the paper plate at the top and create two layers of punched holes.

3. Take the orange yarn and sew it through the holes in the paper plate with your fingers.

This will create the leprechaun’s beard.

Once you have reached the last hole, tie the yarn into a knot on the pack of the plate

4. Create the leprechaun’s hat using green construction paper.

Cut out a black rectangle and a yellow square.

Fold the yellow square to cut out a smaller square inside to make it into the hat’s gold buckle shape.

Now, assemble the hat pieces together.

Once assembled, attach the hat to the paper plate.

Attach the hat to the top of the paper plate, and add a black band and a yellow buckle for extra flair.

5. Next, add large googly eyes to create the leprechaun’s face.

If you don’t have googly eyes, you can use white paper and black construction paper to make the eyes.

Cut out circles, ensuring that the white paper is slightly larger.

6. Attach the orange pom pom ball to the leprechaun’s nose to the center of the paper plate and draw a smile using a marker.

Now you have fun paper plate leprechaun.

More Leprechaun Craft Fun

You can take this craft even further by adding a popsicle stick to the base of the paper plate to turn this into a leprechaun mask.
